Cashmere and scarves have been in my life for as long as I can remember. Even as a small child I secretly took my mother’s cozy scarves to wrap myself in them. They were and still are my favorite way of walking through the cold, it is my substitute for jackets and coats.
The name EMAAL is a personal story, it is the amalgamation of three names, Emma, Magda and Alexandra. These are my daughters and I who both share my passion for cashmere and scarves.
Traveling is one of my favorite activities. There is always a scarf in the luggage. Wherever I am in the world I’m on the lookout for cashmere scarves, for new colors and patterns, I like to wear colors and patterns that are not so easy to find in cashmere scarves. I often think it would be great to have a pink scarf here, but where can I get it? Well, that was my first inspiration, if I can’t buy it, I design it and produce it myself. That was a sure-fire success.
It’s honestly a mix of both. In some places there is a picture before my eyes that shows me that it would be a nice scarf. But sometimes I think of a pattern in a color combination and then I think it reminds me of Lima and I want to go there immediately.
Cashmere is one of my all-time favorite products. And that’s been my life. It gives me a feeling of warmth and security. Whenever I find myself in an uncomfortable place in the world or in an uncomfortable situation, the smell and warmth of my cashmere scarf immediately give me the feeling that “everything will be fine”. That might be a little pathetic, but that’s the way it is.
Visions are always such a thing. I wish that if customers are looking for a fancy or high-quality cashmere scarf in 10 years, they will automatically say: let’s take a look at EMAAL Cashmere first.
